10 - A short break with Harukaze-san

[―――And, that's what all happened.]

The evening of the day. After returning home from school, I was in my room.

I sat in a chair, wearing headphones, and was connected to a voice chat on my computer as I conversed with someone.

As per our previous agreement, I was about to start playing a game with her.

[My classmates, they all ganged up on me and said horrible things. I haven't done anything wrong, tho...]

[That's just kind of, terrible, isn't it...]

The voice that sympathized with my words was a woman's.

With headphones worth more than 100,000 yen, her voice came through incredibly clear and pure, and at the same time, deeply compassionate.

Preparations had already been completed, and in the time leading up to the launch, I had been sharing the events of the past few days with her.

[Or maybe I'm in the wrong here?]

[Nah, I don't think that's the case. You, Kuzuma-kun, haven't done anything wrong. It's much worse for a bunch of people to gang up on one person, no matter how you look at it.]

By the way, "Kuzuma" was my username.

It was just a simple combination of my surname, Kuzuhara, and my given name, Kazuma. I kind of liked it, even though it wasn't very creative.

[Thank you, Harukaze-san. Your words alone save me.]

[I'm always on your side, Kuzuma-kun. If you ever have any problems, don't hesitate to talk to me. I'll do my best for your sake.]

I had met Harukaze-san as a gaming companion, and even though our connection was limited to the game, her voice was crystal-clear and had a comforting warmth that seemed to envelop me. She exuded purity and innocence.

Harukaze-san listened to my stories, which were only related to our in-game interactions, seriously. There was no doubt that she was a kind person.

I couldn't help but think it would be wonderful to parasitize myself to someone like her and have her take care of me.

[Harukaze-san...]

[Fufu, did that sound a little fishy? But don't forget, this is my true intention. And remember, even though it may not seem like it, I'm older than you, Kuzuma-kun.]

She laughed, but her final words sounded serious.

From what I'd heard before, Harukaze-san was a year older than me and was in her third year of high school.

So, technically, she was like an older sister, but it was a shame that she couldn't support me.

Well, there was only a very limited number of someone like Setsuna and Arisa who could make a lot of money as high school students.

While Harukaze-san was a nice person, I wasn't so depraved as to think about leeching off someone leading an ordinary life, not to mention she wasn't even an idol.

[Thank you. I'll remember that.]

[Yeah... Oh, it's about to start. Are you ready?]

[Ah, wait a second... Let me just do this and this.]

As our conversation came to a close and the game was about to begin, I quickly opened my inventory.

[Alright... Harukaze-san. I've got a little gift for you. Can you keep the channel open for a moment?]

[Huh? A gift?]

[It is... Alright, I've just sent it. Can you confirm if it arrived?]

[Yeah, it just arrived... Wait, is this...?]

I could hear a gasp from the other side. It seemed like the gift had arrived safely.

[Use that for this quest. It should make things much easier with it.]

[But this is a premium item, isn't it? Moreover, it's an item from a gacha-exclusive, right? Kazuma-kun, you're a high school student, aren't you? It's not right for you to give me this.] (PTW/N: here in the RAW it's "Kazuma-kun" not "Kuzuma-kun", what does it mean? Nah, it's probably just simply author's typo.)

[Don't worry about it. You've listened to my complaints, and you've always been there for me. This is like a thank-you gift from me for you.]

I owed her that much, and it was genuinely a gift from me without any other intention behind it.

[But...]

[It's okay, it's really okay. I got it randomly with some tickets, so it's practically free. I won't use it anyway, and it'll be more efficient if you do.]

Well, I'd spent quite a lot on the gacha, so I was pretty much broke.

But now, thanks to the money I got from Arisa, I could afford it, and I genuinely wanted her to have it.

[If that's the case, then I'll accept it. Thank you.]

[You're welcome.]

[I was supposed to be the one helping you, but it turned around. I'll make sure to pay you back properly.]

[Don't worry about it.]

[That'll be not good. I'm the older sister here, after all. Plus, I'm kinda special in my own way, you know? You'll see, eventually, though.]

[Haha, what's that supposed to mean? Well, I'll try not to get my hopes up.]

[Aw~, you're so mean~!]

With some playful teasing from my "older sister," I continued to enjoy the game.

[End of Chapter]

A/N:
By the way, it's a completely irrelevant detail, but the names of the members of Dimens have characters for or follow "flowers, birds, wind, and moon" (花鳥風月; Kachou Fuugetsu) on them.
Well, it's genuinely an inconsequential thing.

TL/N:
花鳥風月; Kachou Fuugetsu = beauties of nature; the traditional themes of natural beauty in Japanese aesthetics.
花: Kun: hana; On: ka, ke. (Flower)
鳥: Kun: tori; On: chou. (Bird)
風: Kun: kaze, kaza-; On: fuu, fu. (Wind)
月: Kun: tsuki; On: getsu, gatsu. (Moon)

Kachoufugetsu (花鳥風月)
Meaning: The beautiful features of natural scenery, the beauty of nature, artistic pursuits with natural themes, the wonders of nature, scenic nature.
花鳥 (kachou / flowers and birds) often appears as a two-kanji compound when referring to art or poetry themes. 花鳥画 (kachouga) or 花鳥図 (kachouzu) refers to a flower-and-bird genre within Japanese and Chinese paintings and 花鳥諷詠 (kachoufuei) is a key poetic theme of haiku, discussing the harmony that exists between man and the beauty of nature. As for 風月, the compound means nature’s beauty, though it literally details a cool breeze and a bright moon. (tokyoweekender.com)

We already have:
鳥: Takanashi(kotori asobi) Setsuna
月: Tsukishiro Arisa

And now we can guess based on the name pattern and her kinda special circumstance that she's a member of Dimens.
風: Harukaze

Anyway, that "Takanashi" brought back the memories of the first (or second) anime I watched, Black★Rock Shooter. I learned in that anime about kanji written "Kotori asobi (little bird playing)" but read "Takanashi (no eagle)" 😅.

Cya~!
